Hello Carl,

The current version of the product supports external hard drives directly under Windows.
So, you can repair it as a external drive, but USB interface has a lot of limitations, for example, the regeneration speed may be slow.

I have a home theater PC with 5 drives totaling 10TB. The C drive is the problem as I have bad sectors and received the message “Backup Data Immediately” which I assume means there is a serious problem with the drive. Is this correct and if so should I replace the drive?

Hello:

I have had some problems with an USB external HDD (1TB). I did a “scan and repair” with HDD regenerator, and i have this results:

Complete scans done: 2
D – 49 delays detected
B – 0 sectors remais bad
R – 25 (163)sectors recovered
N – 25 New bad sectors appear
R – 0 bad sectors reappear

What is your opinion about this? What you recomend after this results?

Thanks

Hello Nuno,

Please try several passes of the product until all bad sectors are recovered.

Hello Stephen,

In most cases, the “Backup Data Immediately” message means that the hard drive has a hardware (mechanical) problem.
If HDD Regenerator constantly reports “Backup Data Immediately”, the hard drive should be replaced.

Does HDD Regenerator scan the entire drive before it makes repairs?
It’s flashing REGENERATING as it scans.

Hello CG,

Yes, you can use “Scan, but do not repair (show bad sectors)” mode.

hdd regenerator has in the past fixed s.m.a.r.t issuses when the problem was “current pending reallocated sector” went from 0% health in speedfan to 92% after a pass with hdd regenerator, but only when the problem was in this attribute , keep that in mind when checkingsmart of your harddrive thanks to the creator of this software, nice product.

I have a 160Gb Seagate HDD and before I use it I ran HDD Regen on it just to check. My results were 0 sector reallocated, 0 delays, 0 sector remain bad, 0 sectors recovered, 0 new bad sectors, 0 bad sector reappear. Scanned this drive twice and both times during scan i got the message back up data immediately. Is this drive safe to use? I was planning on zero filling the drive before formatting for use but don’t know if drive is ok now.

I want ask several things about using HDD Regenerator v2011
1. Are using USB, ATA, SATA has a different speed in repairing HDD?
2. Are Computer device such processor, affecting speed when repairing HDD?
Thanks

Hello Seoken,

The repairing speed for SATA in compatible IDE mode is faster than SATA in AHCI mode and USB.
Processor affects the repairing speed, however the affecting of processor is minimized in the latest version of the product.

I was impressed with the demo version of your software but would like to know is there a way to export the scan/repair results to a text file or equivalent? This would be very useful as a reporting feature for my customer repairs.

Hello Seamus,

Log files are stored in HDDSTAT folder in the product installation directory and on a bootable regenerating flash.

Thanks for the quick reply. Another question relating to SSD’s if I may, the windows based HDD Regen App is stating that my new OCZ Agility 3 drive is about to fail. I’ve not had any symptoms from the drive to make me think this is true, is this just an issue with SSD’s in general in the way the app monitors it, or should I be worried?

Hello Seamus,
Please check your mailbox, download the latest version of HDD Regenerator monitor from the link we sent and send us a screenshot of the S.M.A.R.T. information screen.

When starting HDD regenerator, I get a warning: “The system has detected SATA controller running in AHCI mode…..”

My OS (WIN7) is indeed on a SSD running in AHCI mode. However, the hard drive that I am attempting to diagnose/fix is attached to a different SATA controller running in IDE mode.

For optimal performance, does the program (HDD regenerator) also need to be on a hard drive running in AHCI mode?

If not, I guess the error message is incorrect because the faulty drive is already in IDE mode?

Hello Erik,

The message is common for all hard drives and if at least 1 hard drive is working in the AHCI mode, you will see this message. If the hard drive you want to recover is working in the IDE mode, just ignore this message.
